DRAFT LETTER TO MP
Dear (name of MP)
As a constituent, I’m asking you to call on the government to take the urgent steps necessary to end its complicity in Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, including through an immediate and comprehensive arms embargo on Israel.
The steps taken so far by the UK government are woefully inadequate. Without further action, Britain’s complicity in Israel’s genocide will be maintained, and many more Palestinians will be killed.
In his statement to Parliament, David Lammy conceded what has been clear to a consensus of human rights organisations and legal experts, the international courts, and the majority of the British public – that Israel is engaged in genocide and other crimes against humanity including using starvation as a weapon of war.
Yet, the government has refused to stop exporting most weapons and components used by Israel in its genocidal assault.
As my MP, I’m calling on you to demand that the government abide by its legal responsibilities by taking the necessary steps to prevent and punish Israel’s genocide, and end all aid and assistance to Israel’s unlawful military occupation.
Publicly demand that the government:
Immediately introduce a comprehensive military embargo to end all arms trade and military collaboration with Israel.
Introduce a total ban on all trade which aids or assists Israel’s violations of international law including but not limited to trade with Israel’s illegal settlements.
Introduce immediate and wide-ranging sanctions, including travel bans and asset freezes, against all Israeli government ministers, including Benjamin Netanyahu.
Kind regards
